InMe — Corporation, Sheffield

Fei Comodo opened the show, and they did a pretty good job of it. Despite some technical failures, they were able to showcase some of their songs to an audience who were likely to be receptive. Unfortunately, they never really seemed to have the crowd on their side, so even though they played a good set, they weren’t rewarded for their hard work.

Dave McPherson, lead singer with InMe, has an absolutely fantastic voice, and I was disappointed that it didn’t come across very well. I’m not sure whether that was because the equipment wasn’t up to scratch, or whether he finds it difficult to sing live. However, the music was powerful. It came as something of a shock that InMe chose not to play much of their old material. Since Joe Morgan left, and he was replaced with Greg McPherson, obviously the band have undergone some pretty big changes. The look of the band has changed as much as their sound has, and it wouldn’t be fair to expect Greg to cover for his predecessor, but it still felt a bit unsettling. The good news is that the new material is absolutely top notch, and at a time when so many older bands are releasing material that’s getting worse and worse, it’s refreshing to find a band that break that tradition.
