Coheed & Cambria vs. Thrice — Birmingham Carling Academy

Thrice were disappointing live; despite having very reasonable studio material, they seemed unable to play it well. A relatively poor vocal performance was only made worse by the band’s serious timing issues. However, they were able to perform a decent rendition of ‘The Artist In The Ambulance’, possibly their best song. However, all of Thrice’s misgivings were forgotten as soon as Coheed came on stage. The band played a tight, extremely impressive set, with plenty of stage theatrics. They managed to perfectly balance their old material with the new, and the heavier tracks with the softer ones. Claudio’s voice is possibly better live than in a studio, and his hair has to be seen to be believed. If you ever get the opportunity, buy tickets to this band.
